Loewe Innovation Design Project

A project exploring modular fashion inspired by photography of chemical waste aerial photos as a result of textile wastage produced by the fashion industry. The photos are at first deceiving appearing to be oil paintings, hence the term 'Chemical Waste Art' named by the photographer, Behance. Instead what is being shown is harmful textile waste that has polluted natural waters.

Unfortunately, currently the fashion industry is one of the most heavily polluting industries worldwide, and is damaging to our waterways, as captivated in the the beautiful, yet disturbing inspiration photos within this project. Therefore, as part of this project I explored the use of natural dyes such as from food waste or bacteria pigments as an alternative to chemical dyes.

I was inspired by the electrifying colours and the textural patterns within the photographs. I was particularly drawn to the combination of warm orange and icey blue tones in the images.  I also drew inspiration from the waves, cracks and  folds to create a fluid and draped collection.
